Dog Appreciation: 5 Things to Thank Your Dog for This Thanksgiving
With Thanksgiving in the USA, it’s time to think about the things we’re grateful for – and that definitely includes our little ones! In fact, no matter if you’re celebrating Thanksgiving, it’s always important to think about the many blessings our dogs give us every day.
What do you thank most in your canine companion?
I have a list of personal thoughts I’m about to share. I hope that at the end of this post, you’ll leave a message in the comments telling me what you’re grateful for too!
Here is what I am most grateful for…
I am grateful for my dog’s constant companionship
Dogs are by far one of the most loyal creatures on the planet. After all, what other animal would watch you walk out the door to go to work or run and go, and then sit at the window all day waiting for you to come home?
Your puppy’s favorite person is you. And having that kind of communication with animals is one of the most beautiful things in the world.
While we all need human contact, sometimes all it takes is a cuddle on the couch or a long walk in the park with your furry baby to remember you’re not alone.
Need a hug? Your dog will be there!
Do you need someone to listen to you? Your pup will happily do!
Simply need a day to rest and relax? Your dog protects your back!
Thank your pup today for their continued loyalty and companionship.
I’m so grateful for my dog’s weird way of making me laugh
Dogs do the funniest things.
In fact, I’d be willing to bet that most puppies do at least one thing daily that brings a smile to their owners’ faces. I know my dogs do!
From chasing tails to “protecting” you from that vicious squirrel sitting outside your window, it’s all too easy to chuckle as you watch your pup explore the world.
We could all use more laughter. Thank your pup today for the smile he puts on your face!
I am grateful for my dog’s sense of adventure
Have you ever asked your dog to try something new and his response was “No thanks!”
me too…
My dogs are always going to go on new adventures with me, whether it’s traveling to a new place, exploring a new hiking trail, or trying out a new food.
Your friends and family members may not always be down for the activities you want to try, but I can bet your dog will be the first to volunteer to go with you! Of course, as long as the activity is safe for your canine companion and within reason.
Over the years, I’ve made so many wonderful memories with the pups who were willing to walk me every step of the way, and I thank them for their dedication!
I am grateful for the impact my dog has on my health and well-being
Dogs can improve human health and well-being in many ways.
For starters, our canine companions are experts at helping people deal with mental health issues. While dogs cannot cure depression or anxiety, they can certainly provide a lot of comfort and support, relieving symptoms significantly.
This is why so many people with mental health issues end up adopting a dog…for love, support, and companionship. This is also common for older adults, who are in dire need of companionship.
Our little ones also have the ability to improve our physical health.
When you adopt a dog, they are dependent on you for their complete care, which means getting up off the couch to meet their basic needs on a daily basis, such as walking or feeding them.
I got a lot of exercise thanks to spending time outdoors with my dog. And I’m willing to bet that I owe my good health in part to my dog.
Was your dog a contributing factor to your mental or physical health? Tell me in the comments below; I’d love to hear your story!
I am grateful for my dog’s ability to teach me about kindness, kindness and unconditional love
My dogs teach me new things on a daily basis. However, one of the most important things my dogs have taught me is the importance of being kind and gentle, and how to love unconditionally.
In fact, my entire dog training career (and dog training program) has been founded on these principles.
There is nothing better than knowing that your dog loves you no matter how successful you are, how much money you make, how beautiful the house you live in, what you have lived in, etc.
And that’s a great reminder that we must practice these principles whether it’s while training a dog or socializing with your co-workers in the office.
I hope the upcoming holiday season will give you a chance to think about how great it would be to have a dog in your home. While thinking, don’t forget to give your fur baby an extra treat or rub his tummy to remind him how much he appreciates it!
Happy Thanksgiving if you’re celebrating!
