10 DIY Ideas for Horse Barn and Tack Room

If you are looking for DIY horse stable organization and tack room ideas , you are here!

Drowning in a sea of blankets and saddle pads is a common problem for horse owners, and there often seems to be an unspoken rule for collecting as much bridle as possible.

I won’t confirm or deny this, but I have to admit that my barn is overflowing with every device imaginable.

Do I really need 15 bits for a horse that always walks in a simple bridle? Maybe not.

But if I can at least organize it so it doesn’t look like a giant metal mesh, I can get rid of it. Until now .

Here are my favorite tips to help you suggest organizing your group.

DIY horse stable organization

Why didn’t I think of this? Second hand safes are easy to find at flea markets and thrift stores for very little money (or find a refurbisher).

You can find the full tutorial here . I love that it can hold a lot of shovels, shovels, and forks.

bucket hose holder

The best way to regulate the runaway hose.

It is installed in a washing compartment, which creates an ideal place for nozzles, brushes and soap. I have a lot of it 10 quart galvanized steel bucket (can you have a lot?)

trash can

These are great multi-purpose organizers for everything from coils to whips.

I use my own to store cargo gear (boots, boots, cut halter, etc) so I don’t have to find everything at the last minute (while waiting for a trailer full of horses).

These containers, enclosed in a wooden frame, are ideal for storing grain.

pallet rack

The reusable pallet is perfect for storing horse supplies (is there anything you can’t do with a pallet these days?)

whip holder

Attach a piece of PVC pipe to the fence with hose clamps and you have a convenient place to store the whips. I have two sizes at home; One for lunged whips and the other for grain.

Now I have one less thing to lose on the way back to the fold!

DIY Tech Room Ideas

simple saddle rack

This is a quick project that uses reclaimed wood and can be assembled for about $5.

See full directions here . I seated the eye hook over the entire saddle compartment so it can be moved easily and accommodates different saddle sizes.

Shoe holder with velcro lock

Genius! For less than $10, you can create this practical and adorable boot wall.

Smart tip – I recommend using a solid wall, not a door (as pictured). I tried the door and dropped my old, worn-out shoe when it closed too tightly. These synthetic velcro straps work great for them.

Rolling semi-trailer

This DIY project is surprisingly easy. FAQ and material list here .

It’s much better than multiple trips to a tech room and great for shows or trips.

DIY ideas for storing horse blankets

blanket containers

If you live in an area that requires year-round coverage (snow/rain/flying) this saves a lot of space.

Once the blankets are clean and dry, just store them in large containers . Don’t forget to name the horse and the type of blanket (or size) so it’s easy to find.

No more piles of blankets! (Sedentary cats have to find a new place to sleep…)

top drying rack

This is a huge space saver.

You can keep blankets and saddle pads hidden in such a way that they are always dry and ready to use and also makes it easier to search in your collection.
