12 tips for building your perfect horse barn

When trying to build the barn of your dreams, there are several things to consider. In addition to equipment, you must also comply with building codes.

Of course, talking about staying organized throughout the process is usually easier said than done. That’s why we’ve compiled 12 tips to keep in mind when building a stable.

Your perfect stability

As a horse lover, you probably already know that the stable of your dreams should have a roofed room next to the sleepers. Taking a shower in the bathroom is a good idea, too.

But have you already thought about horse boxes? What will you do with the ventilation? How and where do you store horse equipment and food? These are all factors involved in the construction process.

Before raising your tool belt, you need to first consider your level of knowledge. Even if you’re a real handyman, it’s only important to tackle projects that you feel comfortable with.

Unfortunately, not many people know how much work went into building a stable for horses.

Keep this in mind when planning for the long term

When there is a horse, there is usually more to follow. For example, let’s say you already have four horses but plan to buy more. You will need to add more stables, maybe five or six, to your horse stable.

You may be wondering, “In the meantime, what do I do with it, leave it blank?” So to speak, yes. Even if they remain unoccupied, you can still use the holders as storage in the meantime.

Make the kiosks bigger

Many professional horse owners say a 10×10 stable is too small. Instead, they recommend a 12″ x 12″ cabin so you have more room for larger aisles.

When planning your new barn, you also need to think about the flooring. The most common and recommended flooring is a granite base for racks. The trails should be covered with rubber mats so that the horse is comfortable. If you prefer something a little different, use concrete and brick.

What stable horse design works best?

There are two types of barn designs. Inner column and clear extension. With one type of interior column, barn columns hold the rafters in place to support the roof. One type of free extension has trusses that span the width of the barn and do not require trusses to support the roof.

Install a horse washbasin

You can install a drainage system in an empty stable and easily create a cleaning space for your horses. You will need a concrete floor, a drain covered with rubber mats, and an overhead hose.

Make room for your room

Every horse stable needs a saddle room space. The saddle room is a place where you store all your tools such as saddles, horseshoes, blankets and mattresses. Be sure to include a door to keep dust to a minimum.

Ensure adequate air circulation in the stables

Proper air circulation is vital to the health of your horses. Make sure to install a ventilation system in the roof to improve air quality, reduce heat, and keep your horses happy.

Install fans in the stands

Some horse owners may choose to install an overhead fan for their horses in each of their stables. However, do not confuse horse lovers with the typical home enthusiast. Horse fans are attached to the ceiling to blow air down.

Consider sliding doors

Instead of noisy sectional doors, why not install sliding doors instead? It won’t scare the noises made by the horses as it would the sectional doors.

Put some windows in their place

Adding natural light to your barn is a great way to reduce energy consumption. A great way to do this is by installing horse stable windows. They provide not only natural light, but also additional ventilation.

Keep the straw in the next building

Storing hay in a different building does not prevent your horses from overeating. It is a safety precaution. While it is rare, horse stables can accidentally catch fire and burn the hay so quickly that you have almost no time to react in time before your horses do.

Think food and water

It is important to think about where you will store the feed for your horses. You can place them in a stacking room, but this can make dealing with dust and insects difficult. A separate, safe room with metal feed boxes is ideal.

Also, always remember to schedule the water supply, either to fill buckets manually or to install an automated irrigation system.
